Clarifier and Grease Trap Processes
Clarifiers and grease traps are on site waste water treatment systems. Certain companies are required by the Department of Industrial Waste to have a sand and oil clarifier or a grease trap installed at their facility. Normally the Industrial Waste Department will require a properly-sized clarifier ranging from 750 gallons and up.
Clarifiers and grease traps will pre-treat the water to strip it of hazardous materials before it goes down the public sewer system and to the local water treatment plant. The water is filtered through two to three chambers and the hazardous materials remain in the chamber while the pretreated water goes through to the public system. Clarifiers and grease traps must be maintained, periodically, by having them pumped out and cleaned. There is a sample box on the discharge end for Industrial Waste to test to make sure the clarifier or grease trap is working properly. You should have the clarifiers pumped out by a licensed professional. Plumbing Specialists does not provide pumping, though we do provide installation. We are happy to recommend a pumping company to you. Sand and oil clarifiers are needed by companies involved in the automotive industry, machining industry, and car washes --just to name a few. Grease traps are mainly for restaurants and food-processing companies.
